Adam Smith’s big break helps South Hylton to top league

In group one of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker Summer League, an excellent 110 break by Adam Smith got South Hylton off to an excellent start at home to Steels winning the first frame against Lee Norton 110-20.

Graham Rutland won the second frame, beating Tommy Ayre 75-46 before Ray Charlton Junior pulled one back for Steels beating Gavin Dixon 56-14.

In the pairs, Graham Rutland/Adam Smith beat Ray Charlton Senior/Vince Flynn 57-46 to make the final score 3-1 Hylton and moved them top of the group.

Pennywell Comrades A welcomed Biddick A and started well with Kevin Harrop winning a close first frame against Steven Tate 46-43 and Joe Turner winning the second frame beating Graham Smith 70-62.

Terry Froud pulled one back for Biddick beating Dean Taylor 64-38 before Graham Smith/Rod Turnbull won the pairs beating Stuart Taylor/ Steve O’Wellen on the final black 55-47 to make the final score 2-2.

Gary Stockton got Seaham Conservati­ves A off to a good start at home to The Hetton Centre winning the first frame against Paul Stoves 74-7 before Paul Nord leveled the match beating Michael Monaghan 66-40.

Joe Nord moved Hetton into the lead winning the third frame against Ian Hughes on the final black 59-48 before Ian Hughes/Gary Stockton won the pairs beating Paul Stoves/Steven Rushworth 7837 to force a 2-2 draw.

In group two, leaders Boldon CA suffered a surprise defeat at home to Pennywell Comrades B. John Campbell won a close first frame against John Smith 67-57 before Anthony Longstaff increased the lead beating Joe Cromby 78-38.

A 25 break helped Mark Fox pull one back for Boldon winning the third frame against Aaron Duncan 64-36 before Andy Doran/Aaron Duncan won the pairs beating Graeme Ablett/John Smith 65-40 for an excellent 3-1 win.

Murton Colliery welcomed Mill View. Stephen Clementson won the third frame beating John Spruce 76-45 before teaming up with Eddie Williamson to win the pairs 6522 for the 3-1 win.
