Pupils chose new look - head

-

Kepier headteacher Nicky Cooper has thanked the “very large majority” of parents who have supported the new school uniform policy.

She said 99% of pupils had attended school in the uniform and added: “They look so smart and the learners seem so confident and proud in it .”

Mrs Cooper said it was the students themselves who had asked for a new uniform with a blazer and tie earlier this year and a monthlong consultation was carried out with them and parents and the new uniform was chosen and agreed by the governors.

She said: “We have been in constant communication with parents and homes and I need to say thank you to all the parents who have supported it.

“The very large majority are behind us.”

Mrs Cooper acknowledged that school trousers could be bought cheaper singularly, but added that in this case they come as part of a package of £40 for the whole uniform, which she believes is cheaper than many other schools.

She added: “We have gone for good quality trousers that are adjustable and we wanted to make it the same for everyone.”

The principal at the Dairy Lane school said they wanted to avoid other sorts of trousers creeping into the uniform - such as skinny fit ones and even black jeans - and that it had made vouchers available to help with the cost of the uniform for parents who felt they were struggling to pay for it.

Mrs Cooper, said: “We have been giving vouchers out to parents that have applied for support towards the school uniform. We have looked at each individual case and given help where needed.”

Parents spend an average of £170 kitting out each child for the new school year, according to a www.VoucherCodesPro.co.uk report.
