Only God has the right to hashtag you

-

Hashtags seem to be used frequently these days to label events or situations.

For example, #summer, #back to school, #i love Jesus ... whatever.

Yet, who has the right to hashtag or label something or somebody?

Firstly, the maker – if somebody makes something they have a right to label it.

For example, when Nike makes something, it can brand it with the swoosh. It labels it because it made it.

Secondly, the buyer has the right to label or hashtag something. If I buy a coat, I can write my name in it because I own it.

The problem today is that many have been culturally conditioned to believe they have the right to label or hashtag others: #unattractive, #boring, #disappointment. We may even label ourselves: #unworthy, #guilty.

As a Pastor I deal with people #’s or labels everyday: #addicted, #stressed, #stupid.

When we accept a label, we allow it to control us and they can be powerful.

The encouraging news is, the person who made you and bought you, God, has the only right to #hashtag you.

The Bible teaches that we are wonderfully made in God’s image. Then He bought you at a price, with the death of His only Son, Jesus.

Once we start to trust in Jesus, and understand we are made in His image, for a purpose, are sons and daughters of the most high God….. those #’s drop off.

We can gain new #hashtags: #accepted, #new creation, #heir, #loved by God.

There is a God who labels us with these truths.
