DOZEN DOES ASHBROOKE FINE

Durham County Sunday Cup Ashbrooke Sports Club made light work of Clara Vale as they racked up a dozenat the Limes.

The Premier League side scored for fun as it finished 121. Luke Helens (2), Gibson, Renton, Ridley (2), Hope-Hindmarsh (3) and Clark Stead all scored in this rout.

The Jolly Potters’ good form continued with another win against Castleside. Paul Webster hit his usual hat-trick, Stephen Lax, Sanders and an own goal saw the Potters sail into the next round after a 6-1 success.

Hendon Athletic bowed out of the cup after taking Consett Demi to penalties.

Dean Machin put Hendon in front minutes after the kick off and poor finishing let the hosts off. The Demi levelled things just after half time and then took the lead. Hendon had to wait until the last minute to find the equaliser and Carl Thompson came off the bench to score on his debut. Hendon were beat 5-4 on penalties.

It was an easy away day for Sunderland Railway Club as they fired six past Consett Finnians without reply. Anth Rogerson started things off with an early goal in the first half and hit his second late on. Stewart added to goals from Smith, Tyzack and Scott Wallace.

Farringdon Detached advanced to the next round owith a 5-2 win over Consett Station WMC. Star man Steven Moody scored twice and Baister Adam matched that with two fine goals of his own. Consett replied twice but Detached put the game to bed when Tuckwell scored late on.

Matty Reynolds’ goal for Wearmouth CW juniors wasn’t enough to get anything against Durham Woodmans as they went down 3-1. Cyril Obok shone for the Sunderland side.

The Dolphin failed to find the net to keep their hopes alive against the Fishermans Friends as they were beaten 2-0. Darren Brown stood out for the Sunderland side.

And while Paul Terrell and Joe Young found the net for Washington Arms, the Hartlepool Travellers Rest were too good on the day and overcome the early setback to run out 4-2 winners.

Micky Pattison hit a hattrick and inspired the Park to an easy win away to Lumley FC, before Lewis Fairley hit the fourth to send them into the next round.

Ryhope FC edged an all-Sunderland tie by the odd goal to send Millfield Oddies packing. Oddies took the lead through Ganley but the interventi­on of Ryhope super subs Jordan Sweeney and Paul Jackson , as theyboth fired past Rose in the Oddies goal, won them the game.

Nookside weren’t at the races as they went down 7-3 against Hetton New Inn. Blaine Burn, Jack Barnes and Aaron Clasper were on target. Elsewhere, Oddies edged a 4-3 win over Pennywell Comrades. Oddies were cruising but Pennywell never say die attitude saw them pull goals back though Bradford, Harrison and Greener.

Early favourites Southwick set the tone with a fantastic display to hammer Horden Cricket Club 9-0. Anth Stokell had a great game while Paul Kane hit three, Anth Ross scored twice, followed by goals from Fairley, Butler, Wilson and Jack Quinn to finish the scoring.

Myers fell at the first hurdle as the came up against the experience Stillingto­n Royal side. A double from Michael Smith, Gav Collin and Andy Smith kept Myers interested but the home side were rampant and fired eight past Matty Rowan in the Myers goal.

Elsewhere, Park View crashed out 4-3 against Stockton The George, The Cherry Tree had just the bare XI as they lost 2-0 against Port of Call and The Grange suffered their first defeat of the season as they lost 4-2 against Redhouse Last Orders.

It took a last minute winner to knock the Lansdowne as Coundon Miners Arms earned a classic smash and grab win. The Stella recorded their first win of the season with 3-1 victory over Marsden CW while The Willow Pond hammered Shildon Three Tuns 10-0. Callum Head and Jake McDermott both hit four goals each.
