If you enjoy gardening and have few hours to spare, St Mary and St Peter’s project is looking for volunteers to help maintain of the community garden. Volunteers meet every Monday from 9.30am to noon. If you would like to help, go along and enjoy a cup of tea or coffee while you chat to volunteers. St Mary and St Peter’s Church holds a Sunday service at 9.30am with Eucharist and Sunday School running alongside. Every Tuesday APA in church from 3pm to 5pm for prayers or just a chat.
A690 Youth Initiative coffee mornings are held every Thursday from 10am to noon in St Mary and St Peter’s Community Project. The coffee mornings are hoping to enhance social inclusion, provide an opportunity to build new friendships and develop a supporting network within the community. Humbledon Methodist Church, Ettrick Grove, hosts a number of weekly activities: Monday, Brownies 6.30pm; Tuesdays, Weight Watchers from 6pm; Wednesdays Open Door from 11am to 1pm, coffee and light lunches provided; Thursdays Slimming World from 5pm to 7pm; Sunday worship 10.45am.
To begin the harvest weekend, on Saturday, October 7, a lunch will be held in the Humbledon Church hall at noon. Tickets are now available at £5. On Sunday, October 8, the harvest festival service at 10.45am will be conducted by the Minister, the Rev Rosemary Nash. Everyone is welcome to go along and share in the celebration.

It was another fine day and a another successful Herrington village show took place at the Scout Hut in Crow Lane, Middle Herrington. Billy Tough won the horticulture section trophy and the chairman’s five vegetable challenge. Justine Campbell won the cookery section with Evie Arkle the craft. The photography
first prize went to Ashley Burland. An amazing display of sugarcraft was put on by the Sugarcraft Guild. Sunderland Embroiderers’ Guild exhibited in the stables block while members of Herrington Flower Club scooped the flower arrangement section. Afternoon tea was served up by a joint team from Herrington Townswomen’s Guild and the Women’s Institute
The next meeting of Sunderland Branch of the Embroiderers’ Guild will be held on Saturday at 2pm in the St Aidan’s Parish Centre, New Herrington. This will be the annual meeting and friendship tea. The annual competition “A Piece Incorporating Buttons” for the Brenda Marchbank Trophy will also be judged. Contact Barbara Collins on 0191 5363162 for further details.
