St Aidan’s ‘outstanding results’

RECORD RESULTS MAKE FOR EXCITING TIMES

-

GCSE results day is always a nervous day for pupils and parents alike.

The changes in grading structure (A* - G being replaced by scales 9 to 1 in English and Maths), together with the wellpublicised dip in grades added a new level of uncertainty for all pupils awaiting GCSE results across the country.

It was therefore especially exciting to inform the boys of St Aidan’s of their outstanding results on the 24th August with a record 74% achieving the GCSE 9 – 4 English and Maths grade.

Whilst exam boards had advised that the new Grade 9 would be a rare feat, many of our students achieved this highest grade with 17% of overall grades being achieved at A* - A (Grade 9 – 7), including TJ Smith who achieved the elusive Grade 9 in all 3 eligible subjects, a success achieved by only 2,000 students nationally. Other notable success stories were Jeffin Siby, Callum Hutchinson and Jerom Jose whose results impressively included a number of grades at level 9/A*/A.

In addition to the fantastic achievements of some of our most academically gifted pupils, we are also very proud of the success of our more disadvantaged students who performed strongly and whose achievement was significantly higher than the national average.

As a school we’re incredibly proud of our pupils and of the efforts they make to achieve their very best in their examinations, but also in the manner in which they conduct themselves at school – they are a pleasure to teach and we wish them every success in their future studies and careers.

We look forward to the Summer of 2018 when we hope to build on the outstanding results of 2017!
