RCA stunned as Stockton claim first win of season

Sunderland RCA crashed to a 4-1 home defeat to bottom club Stockton Town in the Ebac Northern League. Division One.

The visitors took the lead after just 45 seconds, through Sonni Coleman but 10 minutes later Nathan O’Neill pounced on a defensive mix-up and levelled things up.

Stockton regained the lead through Fred Woodhouse after 31 minutes and three minutes later it was 3-1 when Max Craggs finished well.

Joe Carter made it 4-1 near the end, to record Stockton’s first win of the season.

Consett beat North Shields 3-2. The visitors took the lead after 10 minutes when Gareth Bainbridge fired home.

They controlled much of the first half, but on 43 minutes, Christophe­r Rogan scored an equaliser with a long-range shot.

Just after half-time, David Dowson struck to make it 2-1 to the home side.

Bainbridge equalised soon afterwards, with a neat finish.

In an end-to-end game, the home side regained the lead again when Jordan Lavery made it 3-2.

West Auckland Town travelled to Marske United and took a 12th minute lead through Amar Purewal before Danny Earl levelled things up six minutes later.

Purewal scored his second when he lobbed home after 53 minutes. With five minutes remaining, Nathan Fisher sealed the win with a close-range effort to make it 3-1.

Penrith entertaine­d Newcastle Benfield and the visitors took the lead with an excellent Paul Brayson strike, direct from a free-kick.

Shortly afterwards, Dean Rae smashed a shot high into the net, from almost 30 yards out, to level things up.

With just minutes to go, Penrith went 2-1 up through Jonathan Murray’s looping header.

In Division Two, Durham City went down 4-2 at home to Bedlington Terriers.

Paul Kane scored after 25 and 33 minutes to make it 2-0 at the break. Goals from Zak Atkinson (54) and Tyler Scarth (58) put the Terriers well on top before late consolatin­s from Callum Smith and Sam Steele.

In the Durham Challenge Cup, Washington lost 1-0 at home to Crook Town.
