Het­ton School at the dou­ble for County Cup suc­cess

Het­ton School are cel­e­brat­ing a dou­ble Durham Cricket Board County Cup suc­cess with the Un­der-14s and Un­der-15s both crowned cham­pi­ons.

The U14s edged home by one run against Barnard Cas­tle in their fi­nal.

De­spite heavy rain the pre­vi­ous day, Het­ton opted to bat and only Lo­gan Bar­ton, with an im­pres­sive 50 from 53 balls, got go­ing in their to­tal of 99-9, with 23 ex­tras. Lock­wood and Sey­mour bagged three wick­ets apiece for Barnard Cas­tle.

Bar­ton struck early in the reply, as Barnard Cas­tle slipped to 17-3, but a 39-run part­ner­ship stead­ied the ship for the Tees­dale side.

Os­car Usher top­scored with 35 and they needed two runs to win from the last over.

But Oliver Watt came to the res­cue, pick­ing up a mem­o­rable hat-trick to fin­ish with 4-8. Bar­ton (214) and Ella Tomys (1-26) also struck as Barnard Cas­tle were all out for 98.

Het­ton de­feated Durham John­ston School by 61 runs in the U15 fi­nal.

Het­ton were put in to bat and posted a tremen­dous 165-3 in 20 overs, Bar­ton lead­ing the way with an un­beaten 81,off 57 balls, with 11 fours and two sixes.

Miles Bir­beck hit 50, while Isaac Unsworth took 2-22.

Durham John­ston could only man­age 104-8 in reply, James Hind­marsh hit­ting 18, Unsworth 17, McCall 13 and Craw­ford 12. Watt (2-10) and Bar­ton (225) starred for Het­ton with Scott, Dreeze and Bir­beck also strik­ing.
