Hope sparks Hall Farm’s cup cruise

Hall Farm Glasshus eased to a convincing League Cup win away to city rivals Hylton Sports Club.

The preliminar­y round tie saw Farm run out 7-1 victors, inspired by star man Martin Hope’s hat-trick.

Andrew Tatters, Stephen Wright, Reece McEwan and Keiron Gleghorn also got in on the act.

In the league, champs Wheatley Hill WMC ended early-season pace-setters Horden Community Welfare’s perfect record with a hard-fought 2-1 triumph.

Lewis Edwards and David Jackson notched the crucial goals to help Wheatley maintain their 100% start with a fourth win. Richard Carr was the hosts’ man of the match as they drew level on points with their visitors.

Newcomers Horden, who had won their previous four games, had star man Jamie Yorke on the scoresheet.

Durham City Reserves secured their first victory of the season at the fourth attempt, thanks to a comfortabl­e home win against Jarrow Reserves.

Man of the match Joe Whelan bagged one of the goals in a 4-0 success, with Robson Brown, sub Jordan Nicholson and James Hudspeth also on target.

Adam Carlin stood out for bottom club Jarrow.

West Auckland Tunns proved too strong for Seaton United, beating the newcomers 5-2.

Stephen Brunskill led the way with a clinical treble, supported by Simon Carney and Steven Corner.
