NELSON URGES WEST END TO KEEP GOOD RUN GOING
TWR BIFOLDS WEARSIDE LEAGUE: FORD QUARRY MEN SEEK ANOTHER THREE POINTS AWAY TO PRUDHOE
Sunderland West End travel to Prudhoe Town tomorrow and joint manager Anthony Nelson is keen to maintain the Ford Quarry side’s recent good form.
Nelson spoke ahead of the game, saying: “It’s always a hard game at Prudhoe, but we are having a good run at the moment, so we are looking to keep it going.
“Only Daniel Martin is missing through injury, with Jamie Fryatt, Kevin Gordon, Brad Forster and Adam Drysdale all back in.”
West End are in action again on Wednesday night, with an attractive derby clash away to Boldon CA.
Boldon CA manager Paul Mossa has a ‘nice headache’ ahead of their league game at Hartlepool.
The squad is looking better with players returning from injury or work commitments. This gives him selection prob- lems as the squad players have been holding the fort.
Jonny Gage, Aaron Burn, Tom West and Liam Cox, alongside Cameron Foster and Phil Gray, are all available for the trip to Grayfields.
Pool manager Terry Hill was frustrated with last week’s defeat at the hands of Darlington Reserves.
Hill said: “It was a strange game as we were 1-0 down inside a minute. We conceded two dubious penalties and went down to 10 men, inside 30 minutes, but dominated the game. Their goalkeeper made several excellent saves and we missed some easy chances, only to be caught by two breakaways in the last few minutes.” Pools team news is that Andy Blackburn is still a doubt with a hamstring injury, while John Stephenson could return.
Keiron Campbell serves a one-game ban, after two yellow cards last Saturday and young striker Lewis Malham, has been added to the squad.
Coxhoe Athletic host South Shields Reserves and manager Paul Cooper said: “It’s another tough game and Danny and Michael Naylor are both unavailable due to a family wedding.
“Dean Caris is also unavailable due to work commitments, but, other than that, we have a full-strength squad, with Kai Willis available.”
Harton and Westoe CW face a tough home derby against sixth-top Hebburn Town Reserves, who have a game in hand on most of the teams above them.
Wolviston entertain Leam Rangers and will be missing in-form goalkeeper Chris Davidson, who starts a three-match ban and will be replaced by Karl Wellard.
Manager Steve Cook is currently in talks with Marske United boss Carl Jarrett with a view to signing second-choice goalkeeper Lewis McDonald on loan, to give him some game time.
They have striker Nathan Bayes back and the only doubt is leading scorer Junior Masandi, who is struggling with a knee injury and will have a fitness test and then be assessed by physio Yoke Walker.
Silksworth CW are without a match this weekend, but they are back in action on Wrednesday night, with a home league match against Coxhoe Athletic.
Annfield Plain are also on a bye week, with the focus switching to Tuesday’s visit to Hebburn Town Reserves.
