Lady Black Cats add three more sign­ings

Sun­der­land Ladies have snapped up three play­ers on one-year deals to fur­ther bol­ster their squad ahead of the new FA Women’s Su­per League 1 sea­son.

The Lady Black Cats have landed 27-year-old FrenchAmer­i­can mid­fielder Zaneta Wyne, who has ex­pe­ri­ence in the UEFA Women’s Cham­pi­ons League, from Ice­landic club Thor.

Aus­trian for­ward Si­mona Koren, 24, has signed a deal from Ger­man side MSV Duis­burg, sub­ject to in­ter­na­tional clear­ance, while 24-year-old Don­caster Rovers Belles mid­fielder Ka­sia Lipka (in­set) has moved north and up a di­vi­sion.

Tyler Dodds has also re­joined the club af­ter a spell with WSL2 out­fit Durham Women, mean­ing Sun­der­land have six new faces this sum­mer, af­ter last week’s ar­rivals of Rachael Laws and El­lie Ste­wart. Man­ager Me­lanie Reay, whose side fin­ished fourth in the WSL1 Spring Se­ries ear­lier this year, said: “It was al­ways an im­por­tant task for us to add real qual­ity to our side in this win­dow and these sign­ings cer­tainly do that. “Their pro­file and am­bi­tion match what we have at the club and we’re all re­ally look­ing for­ward to see­ing them on the field for us.”

Sun­der­land be­gin their cam­paign away to Read­ing next week­end, be­fore host­ing Chelsea at their new home of Mariners Park, South Shields, on Septem­ber 30 (6pm kick­off ).

Mean­while, Sun­der­land have lost the ser­vices of tough-tack­ling full-back Abby Holmes, who has joined Dutch side PEC Zwolle.
