Lady Black Cats add three more signings

-

Sunderland Ladies have snapped up three players on one-year deals to further bolster their squad ahead of the new FA Women’s Super League 1 season.

The Lady Black Cats have landed 27-year-old FrenchAmerican midfielder Zaneta Wyne, who has experience in the UEFA Women’s Champions League, from Icelandic club Thor.

Austrian forward Simona Koren, 24, has signed a deal from German side MSV Duisburg, subject to international clearance, while 24-year-old Doncaster Rovers Belles midfielder Kasia Lipka (inset) has moved north and up a division.

Tyler Dodds has also rejoined the club after a spell with WSL2 outfit Durham Women, meaning Sunderland have six new faces this summer, after last week’s arrivals of Rachael Laws and Ellie Stewart. Manager Melanie Reay, whose side finished fourth in the WSL1 Spring Series earlier this year, said: “It was always an important task for us to add real quality to our side in this window and these signings certainly do that. “Their profile and ambition match what we have at the club and we’re all really looking forward to seeing them on the field for us.”

Sunderland begin their campaign away to Reading next weekend, before hosting Chelsea at their new home of Mariners Park, South Shields, on September 30 (6pm kickoff ).

Meanwhile, Sunderland have lost the services of tough-tackling full-back Abby Holmes, who has joined Dutch side PEC Zwolle.
