Impressive Colts keep on winning

-

Sunderland Under-18 Colts claimed a fine 34-24 victory over Durham City at Ashbrooke.

The home side started brightly with Farai Chikumbirike just held up.

Soon after, the ball was recycled with Ben Hutchinson, Dean Edmundson and Fletcher Jackson setting up Chikumbirike, who scored a great team try under the posts. Michael Holder kicked the conversion.

Sunderland continued to dominate and Brad Lindsay went over to make it 12-0

Durham hit back with an excellent try but they then had a player sinbinned after Edmundson was stopped by a trip. Holder added three points from the penalty.

Brad Wall was superb in the line-out and Sunderland powered forward with Edmundson jinking through under the posts, with Michael Holder adding the extras for 22-7.

Durham fought back well though and two tries brought it back to 22-17 at half-time.

Sunderland started the second half well, though, and Jack Hadlington burst clear and passed on to Edmundson, who gave it out to James Usher to score. Holder’s kick made it 29-17.

A fantastic run by Edmundson then saw him offload out of the back of the hand for Usher to score his second. The conversion rebounded off the posts.

Durham didn’t give up and scored another great try but that was to be the last action of the day - another win for Sunderland who now have maximum points from their first three games and sit top of the early league table.

Tomorrow sees a visit to Whitley Bay Rockcliff for a game under lights as the team looks to maintain its momentum.
