Bamba points way for Cardiff in SoL trip

-

Defender Sol Bamba hopes that Cardiff City can build on the boost of last weekend’s last-gasp point-saver against Sheffield Wednesday.

The Bluebirds, who visit the Stadium of Light to take on Sunderland on Saturday, were on course for a second successive defeat until Bamba popped up in stoppage time to rescue a 1-1 draw against the Owls.

Now Cardiff, joint top of the table on 17 points from eight games while Sunderland have just six on the board, aim for a first win in four when they head north at the weekend.

Ex-Leeds man Bamba is stressing the need for unity in the Cardiff squad as they aim to get back to winning ways, saying: “I think it’s a collective effort as always.

“We win together and we lose together, and from front to back it was very good (against Wednesday).

“We help each other, which makes things easier for me.

“If you lose one game, you can move on as this league is a tough league, it’s unpredictable – you can win or lose to any team, and I think Preston (a 3-0 defeat last midweek) was a wake-up call definitely.

“Playing at home against a team like Sheffield Wednesday, obviously we want to win, but overall it was a good point.

“Any game in the Championship is difficult.”

Boss Neil Warnock described Bamba as a “colossus” who merited a “10-out-of-10” rating against Wednesday, but the Ivory Coast international modestly hailed his teammates. Asked about Warnock’s salute, Bamba told cardiffcityfc.co.uk: “He’s too generous – it was a collective effort.

“We win together and we lose together. From front to back we helped each other and they made it easy for me.

“From my point of view, I prefer to keep clean sheets.

“We didn’t start the game as we wanted to but it was a good response second half.

“First 10 or 15 minutes we weren’t at it, but we knew that was an accident and we wanted to put it right. The response was good so we put that behind us and move on.”
