WASHINGTON VISITORS OUTGUNNED AFTER ANDERSON, DIXON GIVE HOUGHTON SPARK

Houghton Wild Boar AllStars battled through in the Durham County Sunday Cup with a 5-2 defeat of Washington Juniors Bluebell.
Karl Anderson and Adam Dixon gave Boar a 2-0 interval lead, but they were made to pay for a series of missed opportunities when the Sunderland Sunday League side pulled a goal back.
Jonny Lavery’s fine save helped retain Boar’s lead before Nick Thompson and a Liam Lusk penalty made it 4-1. A mix-up led to Washington’s second goal, but, with five minutes remaining, Rob Thompson smashed home the hosts’ fifth.
Hilda Park edged past Ferryhill Dynamoes 3-2, with two-goal star man Jamie Gordon and Dan Addison doing the damage.
Chester Garden Farm won through 7-4 against Peases West Sports Club, while depleted Gilesgate Woodman Inn went down 4-1, despite a battling display, at Peterlee Catholic Club.
Lambton Lions United defeated Ryhope Railway Inn 5-2, while Chilton WMC routed Sunderland side Wear United 10-0 and Bowburn lost on penalties to Howden Wingate after a 2-2 draw.
Ouston Cherry Tree lost on penalties to Newton Aycliffe Navy Club, following a 3-3 draw, but Whitehills defeated Whitburn Panthers in a shoot-out after a 2-2 draw.
Washington Cross Keys were good 5-1 winners at Stockton Horse & Jockey, with two-goal Alan Wilson supported by efforts from Phil Marriott, Michael Alcock and Craig Crosby.
Dubmire WMC succumbed 3-1 to Sunderland’s Victoria Gardens, while Durham Buffaloes Head were swamped 11-0 at Wrekenton Stormont Main and Sherburn won well, 4-0 at Houghton Town.
Lumley led early on with a well-taken Jack Liddle header, but Newton Aycliffe Huntsman hit back to run out 5-1 winners in the Castle Insurance Alan Smith Trophy.
It was one-way traffic for the rest of the first half, with Huntsman having Lewis Martin’s fine strike, added to by Stuart Owen (penalty) and Joe Grant.
Martin and Alan Haycock killed off the tie. Brett Russell shone for Lumley.
Premier side Ferryhill Celtic also won through, 4-1 against Third Division Bearpark, courtesy of goals from Leam Dent, Shane Todd, Jason White and Jonathan Agar, with a 20-yarder into the top corner.
Bearpark sub Joe Barber pulled one back, but their day was marred by an injury sustained by Adam Errington, who suffered a nasty fractured ankle after landing badly from a challenge.
Grange Villa came from behind to beat Quarrington Hill 4-3 in a thriller.
Hill took an 18th-minute lead but Ryan Smith soon levelled, sweeping home James Bishop’s cross.
Villa’s Liam Mitchell converted a penalty for 2-1, then Bishop was teed up by Michael Brown to hit a sweet 25-yarder into the roof of the net.
Ben Jefferson scrambled home a fourth, but Hill kept battling and got it back to 4-3 with two goals in the final five minutes.
Neil Simpson and Chris Winter were among Hill’s scorers.
Burnside WMC relied on five goals in the final 25 minutes to knock out Lumley Snooker Club, finishing 5-0 winners in the Durham Sport League Cuo. Burnside went ahead with a penalty and battling Lumley’s heads dropped, with Craig Ellison (2), Callum Munro, Steven Macdonald and Elliot Cutts doing the damage.
Brandon Sports Club bowed out despite taking an early 2-0 lead at Sedgefield St Edmund’s.
Robbie Murray and Scott Bryden netted before seven unanswered goals buried the visitors. Stephen Bagshaw replied before halftime, then Kevin Hodgson (penalty), Kieran Parnaby, Callum Smith (2), Glen Donaldson and sub John Paul Spence all scored.
Kane Collins scored a lastminute consolation.
West Rainton found Durham County too strong, going down 4-0 to goals from Alex Hird (2), Bradley Hird and Jack Carr.
Ushaw Moor Cricket Club dominated Chester Whitehills in a 2-0 win in the only Division Two match.
Goals from Michael Abson and Mark English did the damage, while Scott Nattrass was man of the match, despite being forced off injured after 35 minutes. Whitehills never looked like creating a chance. Jak Penny shone in vain for Whitehills.
In Division Three, Durham Rangers enjoyed a 6-1 win away to Sacriston The Shoes to sit at the top of the table, with James Marshall firing the consolation.
Ferryhill Community Hub outgunned Chester Park Inn 6-0, with Bradley Wilkinson hitting a fine hattrick.
Alex Quinn (2) and Neil Birbeck also scored. Tony Alexander stood out for Park.
Bishop Middleham cruised to a 4-0 success at Witton Gilbert WMC, with two-goal sub Craig Henderson, Brandon Ward and David Redfern on target.
Anthony Morton was Witton’s top performer.
