BOWEN TARGETS BIG JUMPING POT AT UTTOXETER

Peter Bowen always targets the good summer jumping pots and with £25,000 up for grabs in the Actionclad Handicap Chase at Uttoxeter, his Flying Eagle will no doubt be ready to run a big race.

The nine-year-old was sent point-to-pointing with Bowen’s son, Michael, but since being sent back under Rules, he has fared well.

Two wins at Cartmel will have done his confidence good and the drying ground is a big help.

While he might find it harder to dominate in this sort of company, once a runner from this yard gets on a roll, there is never any knowing where they will stop.

Resiliency is one to note in the Sentinel May Un Mar Lady Novices’ Hurdle for Dan and Harry Skelton.

He has arrived from Mick Appleby’s but has obviously had a problem as he has not run for over 400 days.

When he was last seen, however, he was still rated in the mid-80s on the level, so he is a horse with a decent level of ability.

Skelton has fitted him with a tongue tie suggesting there could have been issues with his breathing, but if they have been resolved, he may be too good for this lot.

Previous connections once had fairly high hopes for Holly Bush Henry and he got back to winning ways last time out.

Now with Phil Middleton, who can rejuvenate plenty, he was a 25-1 winner at Worcester recently.

He actually took on Altior in the 2016 Supreme when with Graeme McPherson and while that was shooting a bit high, it does show the regard in which he was held.

A change of scenery has obviously done the trick, and perhaps more crucially a significant drop in the weights.

With just a 7lb penalty in the Crystal Services Handicap Hurdle at Plumpton, he should take all the beating.

Kastani Beach should be all the better for a break in the Brixton Barbarians Cricket Team Handicap Hurdle.
