South Hylton, Boldon set to fight it out for Summer title

In the final week of the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker Summer League, South Hylton claimed top spot of Group One with a 2-2 draw away at Pennywell Comrades A.

Dean Taylor got Pennywell off to a good start before Joe Turner potted well to win the second frame.

A 47-break helped Adam Smith pull one back for Hylton, before teaming up with Graham Rutland to win the pairs, with the aid of a 38 break, beating Steve O’Wellen/Stuart Taylor 7636 for a 2-2 draw.

Seaham Conservati­ves A welcomed second placed Steels and had Gary Stockton winning the first frame.

Tommy Ayre levelled the match, but a 27 break helped Ian Hughes move Seaham back into the lead.

Vince Flynn/Ray Charlton Senior won a close pairs when they beat Michael Monaghan/ Ian Hughes 44-42 to force a 2-2 draw.

Biddick A had Steven Tate winning the first frame against The Hetton Centre.

David Adamson claimed the second frame against Joe Nord.

A 48-break saw Paul Nord pull one back for Hetton, before Paul Stoves/Steven Rushworth won the pairs, beating Adamson/Rod Turnbull 64-52 for a 2-2 draw.

Boldon CA claimed top spot in Group Two with a 3-1 win over Seaham Conservati­ves B.

John Smith won the first frame before Graeme Ablett won the second frame.

Mark Fox’s great start to the third frame was undone when Colin Dobson replied with a 29-break.

In the pairs, Michael Grieveson/Ablett won the frame beating Dobson/Robin Midson 66-43 for the win.

The victory sets up a final tussle with group one winners South Hylton.

The Mill View against Pennywell Comrades B was another game that ended in a draw.

The final of the Summer League will be between South Hylton and Boldon and will take place tomorrow night at Biddick Club (7.30pm).
