Six now in custody as man fights for life
Two more arrests have been made following a hit and run in Sunderland which has left a man fighting for his life.
Two men, aged 25 and 29, have been arrested on suspicion of assisting an offender and remain in custody following the incident, which took place on Hylton Road on Monday evening.
Four people who had been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder remain in custody helping with inquiries.
A man and a woman were injured after they were struck by the car and remain in the RVI with serious injuries.
The man is still in a critical condition with lifethreatening injuries.
Police are continuing to investigate the incident and are appealing for witnesses.
Superintendent Paul Milner said: “We still want to speak to anyone who may have witnessed the incident and has yet to contact police to come forward now.
“We have officers continuing their inquiries in the area and anyone with concerns is asked to speak to police via 101.”
