More than just seven stories on offer at centre
Seven Stories has announced a new season of events – set to fuel the imagination of all ages this autumn and winter.
The programme at the attraction in Ouseburn, Newcastle, features poetry, new fun-themed weekends, a one-off special concert for babies, and a line-up of storytelling and creative workshops led by a host of inspiring authors, playwrights and illustrators.
Visitors can continue to enjoy the popular comics exhibition at Seven Stories, which will be accompanied by exciting new events.
Special exhibition tours – Comic Gallery Explorers – will be stuffed full of comic inspiration, stories, information and ideas.
Master cartoonist Gary Northfield (The Beano, The Dandy) will be introducing everyone to the hilarious world of Julius Zebra, a Roman Zebra Gladiator, whilst handing out a selection of great tips on how to be a successful cartoonist. There will also be a Comic Takeover (October 28) as part of Juice Festival.
For budding bards and promising poets, there will be a rich assortment of poetry events as Seven Stories encourage guests to explore, read, and create their own poetry and spoken word.
This includes Rhyme Scene – a programme of exciting and interactive poetry events developed by young people.
Pop-Up Poetry will be appearing at unexpected times and spaces in the centre and there will be a Rhyme Scene Poet- ry Trail, where participants can embark on a rhyme-solving journey, uncovering hidden clues as they go ( until December 31).
Leading children’s books, authors and illustrators will be popping in throughout the season to host immersive storytelling sessions and to introduce their own work and characters.
Award-winning British author and illustrator Nick Sharratt will be hosting a day of events around his new book, You Choose in Space ,which he has dedicated to Seven Stories; Helen Stephens will be reading and drawing from her new book Oliver Elephant; author Andy Stanton will be in the attic talking about his bestselling Mr Gum series; and illustrator Gerry Tucker will be turning the Seven Stories reception into a magical winter landscape.
