Colts on the rampage in big win against Blyth

-

Unbeaten Sunderland Colts continued their perfect start to the season with a 49-0 win at home to Blyth.

The visitors, who had travelled with just 13 players, were determined to fulfil the fixture and Sunderland were able to supply additional players to allow the game to start.

The home side were quickly into their stride with a wellworked move resulting in Devrim Koca powering home for the first try, converted by Michael Holder to make it 7-0.

Sunderland kept the pressure on and a neat kick forward from Dean Edmundson was agonisingly close to being touched down.

Matt Hodgson then made a fine break and the ball was quickly recycled. Will Ibbotson could have scored but unselfishly chose to pass and the ball was knocked on. Minutes later, a clever kick over the top from Fletcher Jackson was chased down by Sunderland but cleared into touch by Mason Chisholm, the Sunderland wing, who was guesting for Blyth. Further pressure finally paid off with a driving maul whichwastoucheddown wide left by Michael Holder. From a stolen lineout, Edmundson raced away to score, and James Usher added another try to make it 22-0 at half-time.

The Ashbrooke outfit started the second half in the same vein with Thomas Hogg going close after a charge downfield with a number of solid handoffs Another well worked move through the middle released Farai Chikumbirike who went on a mazy run to score a great try.

Usher went on a cross-field run and almost got in only for Blyth to hold him up.

Further pressure paid off though, and Holder went over in the corner.

Dev Koca added another after good work from the pack, and the scoring continued after a powerful run from Brad Lindsay to make it 42-0.

Koca then ran a great line to complete his hat-trick, which, completed the scoring.

Especially pleasing was the first clean sheet of the season, with the win keeping Sunderland top of the table.
