Wightman solo strike sparks Boldon

-

Boldon CA consolidated fourth place in the TWR Bifolds Wearside League with a hard-fought 1-0 home win against mid-table Richmond Town last night.

After a goalless first half, the match came alive when Boldon CA took the lead through Jonny Wightman’s brilliant solo goal.

He beat three defenders and smashed the ball home into the bottom corner of the Richmond net.

Paul Mossa’s men saw out the victory to move three points behind leaders Hebburn Town Reserves.

HartonandWestoe CW went down 3-1 at home to Wolviston, despite taking the lead on 37 minutes, when Dan Sirrell rifled his shot past goalkeeper Chris Davidson.

However, a clinical second-half hat-trick from Famara Jatta saw the visitors to victory. His first came on 50 minutes when he headed home. He hit a superb shot high into the corner of the net 16 minutes later and, with nine minutes remaining, he made no mistake in completing his treble from the penalty spot. Elsewhere, Redcar Athletic won an epic match 5-4 at Stokesley SC to climb into second place, a point off top spot.

Adam Preston and Jack Simpson both netted twice for Athletic, with Mike Woodhouse also notching.

Cleator Moor dropped to third place after their home clash with Windscale was postponed.

In the Ebac Northern League, high-flying Shildon were held 0-0 by lowly neighbours Newton Aycliffe.

The visitors were closest to scoring, hitting the bar just before the break.

Bottom club Billingham Synthonia remain without a win after succumbing to a 1-0 defeat at home to North Shields.

North Shields’ pressure paid off in the 63rd minute, Dean Holmes finishing well at the near post, following a well-worked free-kick.

That goal proved enough to clinch all three points, allowing the Tynesiders to rise into second place in the table, a point behind Morpeth Town, albeit having played two games more. Synthonia have managed just three points in their 13 games so far.
