WEIRS GOES TO TOWN WITH CLASSY TREBLE

MAGICIAN MATTY COMES UP TRUMPS TO INSPIRE HOUGHTON TOWN’S ROUT OF CHILTON

Houghton Town were rampant in a 6-1 Premier Division drubbing of visitors Chilton WMC.

Matty Weirs stole the show with a clinical hat-trick, backed by Jake Winship, Joe Calvert and Rob Thompson, with Joe Cornbill replying.

Sherburn Village consolidat­ed second place thanks to a close-fought 2-1 win at Brandon Sports Club.

Robbie Shields netted for Brandon, but Nick Marley and James Ellis moved Sherburn within two points of leaders Pelton RAOB.

Ferryhill Dynamos overwhelme­dOustonChe­rry Tree 7-0 after an even first 20 minutes.

Vinny Gash’s treble was supported by Nathan Wall (2), Kurt Seymoyr and Dan Taylor.

Houghton Wild Boar AllStars rallied from two goals down with four goals in the last half hour to claim their first win in Division One.

Brancepeth led at the break and doubled their lead on 55 minutes, but Liam Lusk started Boar’s fightback, blasting home on the hour mark. David Banks then cut in from the right to fire in an equaliser.

A Brancepeth free-kick hit the post before Liam McKitten capitalise­d on a defensive mix-up to slot in Houghton’s third on 85 minutes. Star man Lusk then curled in an injury time freekick clincher.

Durham County were good 3-2 winners at Framwellga­te Moor WMC, courtesy of James Huntley (2) and Bradley Hird.

Bede Lodge SC romped to a 9-4 victory over Sacriston WMC.

Hodgson hit five goals, with Mann adding a hat-trick and Paul Corlett also scoring.

Dubmire WMC won 3-0 at Lumley to move three points clear in Division Two.

Jordan Croft, James Gardiner and sub David Finch did the damage, with Josh Hope starring. Scott Melvin shone for Lumley.

Grange Villa are fourth after a 3-3 draw at Lumley Snooker.

The hosts struck early, but Liam Mitchell soon levelled, heading in Mark Greener’s cross. Lumley netted again, then missed a penalty before a second spotkick had them 3-1 up at the interval.

Villa, though, rescued a point when Micky Gray’s cross deflected in for an own goal and then headed home a James Bishop centre.

Sacriston The Shoes climbed to sixth place in Division Three after a 9-3 triumph against Durham Buffaloes Head.

Jackie Moon (4) and Tom Illingwort­h (3) tore Buffs apart, with Jak Gordon and Ethan Moon also on target.

Bishop Middleham beat bottom club Quarringto­n Hill WMC 3-2.

Defensive mistakes led to all three home goals, scored by Callum Bramwell, Shane Bowmer and David Redfern.

East Rainton saw off Burnside WMC in their eagerly-awaited Castle Insurance Alan Smith Trophy tie.

Burnside didn’t really turn up, but still led with a Callum Munro strike but errors proved costly as Rainton sealed victory with strikes from Ryan Shaw, Andrew Shepherd and James Wood, with Craig Hennis starring.

Pelton RAOB won 3-0 at brave Washington Cross Keys with three goals in the final 25 minutes, after the hosts hit the bar.

Michael Mackay, Cameron Nichol and Ben Foster scored. Craig Crosby shone for Keys, Ben Addison for Buffs.

Pittington put Hetton New Inn to the sword with a 7-2 success, after trailing to a fantastic belter of a strike for the visitors.

Three quick goals deflated Hetton and they ran out good winners, thanks to Lee Walker (3), Jonny Scott, Mark Hughes and two-goal Dan Madden.

Ferryhill Celtic won 4-2 at Ouston Juniors, thanks to Marco Linhart (2), Anthony Phillips and Shane Todd. Scott Johnson and Matty McAdam had give Ouston a 2-0 lead.

Hilda Park came from two behind to win 3-2 at Sacriston Cricket Club, with star man keeper Luke Hilliard saving a penalty, among of series of brilliant stops.

Robert Draper’s header and a looping 18-yarder had Sacriston on top.

Chris Days replied with 10 minutes to go, then Jamie Gordon ran through to score and sub Steve Saville’s Hollywood pass into the box was finished by Gordon for a stunning winner.

Witton Gilbert WMC continued their improvemen­t with a good 2-1 win over Durham Rangers in the D&P Trophies Knockout Trophy.

Adam Cook finished off Ryan Blakey’s excellent cross ball, then star man Blakey doubled the lead.

Houghton Chilton Lodge dominated Ferryhill Community Hub in a 6-1 drubbing.

Lambton Lions ensured another day to forget for Langley Park with a 5-0 romp in the JD Taxis Guards Cup.

Jack Young (2), Anthony Cowan, Andrew Jackson and star man Craig Foster all notched.

Ushaw Moor Cricket Club were dominant throughout but missed chances galore in a 3-2 Stepy’s Coaches President’s Trophy win at Bowburn.

Dan Crisp and Ray Port replied to strikes from Dale Morris, Scott Nattrass and Taylor Paul.

Whitehills were mauled 6-0 at Newton Aycliffe Navy Club, with Charlie Fowler (2), Reed Molloy, Billy Moir, Scott Lachlan and Stephen Richardson scoring.

Error-strewn Whitehills were three down in 15 minutes and missed a penalty as their chance of a comeback evaporated.

Hetton Social Club enjoyed a fine 5-2 victory at never-say-die Bearpark, who had Dylan Crooks and John Blake on target.

Robert Mayo (2), Brandon Finnigan, Daniel Scott and an own goal saw dominant Hetton through.

Newton Aycliffe Huntsman edged past Sunderland side Southwick in the FA Sunday Cup, winning 4-3 on penalties after a 0-0 draw.

Veteran keeper Barry Poskett pulled off a string of unbelievab­le saves throughout the 120 minutes as the impressive visitors who caused plenty of problems.

Poskett saved two spotkicks in the shoot-out to seal progress.
