Middleton, Atkinson give Dawdon flier in FA Sunday Cup

Dawdon Welfare Park’s FA AllEngland Sunday Cup ambitions got off to a flier.

In their first round tie at Seaham Town Park, the league champions edged through 2-1 in a hard-fought clash with Amble Tavern.

Kyle Middleton and Paul Atkinson grabbed the crucial goals, with Liam Hodgson starring as Dawdon clinched a home second round date with Liverpool County Premier League outfit Custys on November 12.

The weekend, though, was dominated by the John & Pat McManus Memorial Cup, with 11 first round ties and two in the second round.

Murton Colliery had plenty in hand when they defeated Peterlee Hearts 7-2, with Liam Appleby on target four times. Anthony Cowie (2) and Callum Milne also struck, with Steven Freeman and Michael Coates replying.

Connor Patterson, Tom Hopkirk, Ryan Martin, Liam Gill and sub Chris Dormand all struck as Seaham Marlborough saw off Wingate Grange 5-2, with Michael Lee and Simon Hall replying.

Shotton Comrades had to graft to pip South Hetton Cricket Club 2-1, with Jamie Yorke and Tony Hewitt on target and Nathan Adamson replying.

Sherburn United beat Murton New Hesledon 7-6 on penalties after a 1-1 draw. Michael Marr’s goal for Murton was cancelled out by Mike Barker.

Dave Shotton’s brace led Seaham The George to a 3-1 win over Acre Rigg Celtic, with sub Darren Hogwood also on target. Jordan Pigford replied. Easington CIU squeezed home 2-1 against Horden Cricket Club, with Aaron Watson responding to efforts from Liam Adamson and Kieran Bridon. Hetton Lyons lost 4-3 in a pulsating clash with Wingate Howden. Jonathan Glenwright, Bradley Bowman and Michael Brunning struck as Lyons twice led. But Jake Devine, Joe Coulson, Adam Young and Josh Pettler gave Howden the win.

Horden CW Supporters outgunned Easington Leather Cap 8-0, with James Connor’s treble supported by Rob Mawson (2), sub Philip Quinn (2) and Ken Pounder.

Seaham Parkside succumbed 4-0 to Easington Southside, who had Martin Dunn (2), Stuart Softley and Matt Billyard netting.

Josh Lincoln fired a hattrick as Easington Colliery Club Mechanics outgunned Trimdon Royal Oaks 5-0, with Carl Price and sub Martin Boxall also notching.

Peterlee Catholic Club hammered Haswell Oddfellows Arms 12-0, led by four-goal Liam Wintrip and brother Paul, who notched a hat-trick.

Martin Peace (2), Dave Taylor, Ryan Brymer and sub Alan Smith also scored.

In the second round, Easington Lane WMC eased home 8-0 against Peterlee Central Club, with doubles from Stephen Francis and Jai Young backed by Daryl Robinson, Steve Ashman, Scott Henderson and Callum Haswell.

Peterlee Helford United relied on Amir Kamil Di Di, Dan Johnson and Shaun Ross to sink Easington Welfare 3-0.
