Farm spot on to bowl over rivals

League clubs had a disappointing day in the South Durham Bowl, with just one victory in three ties against teams from the Crook and District League.

Hall Farm Glasshus were the only side to progress, and they had to battle hard to get past Bishop Auckland Hogans on penalties, following a close-fought 2-2 draw.

Lee Pearce fired both goals for Glasshus, who had to come from 2-0 down after Ben Hopkinson struck twice for the visitors, who had a man sent off after 20 minutes.

Farm’s man of the match was Reece McEwan.

Farringdon Detached succumbed 4-1 at home to Darlington Travellers Rest, who hit all four goals inside half an hour.

Jamie Brown was Farra’s top performer, with sub Aiden Simpson hitting the consolation goal.

Durham City Reserves endured a 7-0 thumping at Newton Aycliffe Navy Club, with Joe Whelan their top man on a poor day.

In the Clem Smith Bowl, Hylton Sports Club put up another impressive performance, only to be pipped 4-3 by league leaders Horden Community Welfare.

Peter Crawford, John Bowes, Michael Cain and Joe Bell grabbed the vital goals for Horden to win through to the first round.

Jordan Stewart, Michael Kennedy and star man Luke Bell hit Hylton’s goals.
