FIT-AGAIN BRENTFORD STRIKER VIBE LOOKING TO BUILD ON LIVELY RETURN PERFORMANCE
Brentford talisman Lasse Vibe is raring to go – and hoping to win a starting place for tomorrow’s home Sky Bet Championship clash with Sunderland.
The influential Danish striker returned to action as a substitute in last weekend’s 1-0 victory over London rivals Millwall, a welcome first home victory for Dean Smith’s Bees.
Vibe, who had been sidelined by a foot injury since a 2-0 defeat at Ipswich on August 19, already feels up to speed, and secondbottom Sunderland are in the firing line tomorrow (3pm).
Reflecting on his return to action against the Lions, as a lively second-half substitute, the 30-year-old told Brentford iFollow: “I had a good few chances on Saturday.
“On a different day, one or two might have gone in.
“I thought that I came on and created something positive. That’s what I was told to do, that’s what I wanted to do and I feel good about it.
“With the international break, I was a bit more fresh than maybe I would have been.
“I played 60 minutes for the B team on (the previous) Tuesday, so I felt like I could have started.
“With the break, there was no need to rush it so that’s why I felt, and hopefully looked, fresh.
“I feel sharp so I want to play as much as possible.”
Vibe, who has hit 30 goals for Brentford since joining from IFK Gothenburg in the summer of 2015, found his battle for fitness tough, but the response of the fans was a big fillip.
“I was really pleased to be back and I thought that I got a very nice reception,” he added.
“It didn’t go unnoticed and I was very humbled by that. I am happy to be in and around the team again.
“It was the longest period that I have had out for 10 or 12 years.
“It was just one of those things that happened and I had to rehab it for six to eight weeks.”I have been pushing the last few weeks and I have felt good in training.”
Players hate being injured, and Vibe was no different, though he tried to keep a positive frame of mind at the London club’s training base.
