AFC Wearside hit four to make Billy Pemberton Cup progress
AFC Wearside recorded a rare win, 4-3 at Third Division Wearmouth CW Juniors in the second round of the Billy Pemberton Memorial Cup.
Duncan Stanhope, James Clark, Matthew Rose and James Park did the damage, while Wearmouth relied on Chris Hollern, Craig Williams and Edison-Perekosifa to find the net.
Fourth Division leaders Washington Arms made easy work of The Victory Club, from Division Two, in a 6-0 cruise. Garry McCartney was needed from the bench to help Arms to victory with four goals.
Ross Blenkinsop and Ryan Tench finished the visitors off. James Nelson starred.
The Park embarrassed Nookside in a 15-0 whitewash.
Lewis Fairley continues to fill his boots as he hit six goals to set The Park on their way.
Danny Pattison added a hat-trick, supported by Michael Pattison (2), Connor Gales, Tony Hodgson, Ryan McCollin and Jordan Ayre finished the scoring.
Wear United recorded an impressive cup win over Board Inn, who expected the tie to be a walkover.
It finished 4-4, before United won the shoot-out 3-1.
Steve Walls hitting a treble for United, with Sam Wade also scoring. Wayne Henderson bagged a treble for Board, with Drury netting to take the game to penalties.
Pennywell Comrades smashed 13 goals against Washington Juniors Blue Bell Inn’s luckless keeper, John Abbott.
Pennywell had a host of scorers, with Jon Greener, Josh Dick, Aidan Raeburn, Shaun Mun caster and Andrew Hutchinson all scoring braces. Billy Wyatt, Tom Lemon and Carl Waters also netted, while Craig Wilson replied. Stuart Dodds shone for Bell.
Lakeside SSC were unlucky to go out after fighting all the way against Washington New Tavern.
Mark Barrass put Lakeside in front early on, but New Tavern capitalised on a defensive mishap, with Chris Trewhitt netting. New Tavern won 4-2 on penalties, with Lakeside missing two spot-kicks.
Poor AFC Houghton were on the receiving end of another thumping, 10-1 at Herrington CW.
Dan Hawthorne (2), Jon Shanks, Chris Cook, Adam Guthrie, Ryan Wilkinson (2) and a treble from Jimmy Morrison put Houghton to the sword. John Morrison netted for Houghton, with Connor Ashman their top man.
Grange Park continued their outstanding form with an 8-3 success at Penshaw CC.
Michael Conlin scored twice, and Shaun Conlon made it 3-0 for Grange Park.
Penshaw hit back with a brace from Snelling and a screamer from Liam Binks.
But Grange Park then turned on the style and hit five unanswered goals to seal the win. David Sewell, Lee Smith (2), Kieran Smith and Liam Grimes finished the scoring.
Michael Smith claimed a hat-trick as Myers make easy work of Millfield Free Gardeners. Andy Smith made it 4-0 to seal the deal. Brad Mitchell stood out for the visitors.
Terminus came out on top in their derby, pipping Witherwack 3-2. Glen Hargrave scored twice and Paul Muir hit the winner, cancelling the Wackers’ earlier goals. James Appleby starred.
Jack Callaghan scored the only goal to send last year’s finalists, Park View, through to the third round.
Kings Arms saw chances go begging, while their keeper, Anth Gair, was outstanding.
The Grange got one over on Mill View after falling short in their 4-4 league draw the previous week. On-song Liam Middlemas hit another two for Mill, but star man Mark Muldown, Paul Mitchell, Mark Atchison and Josh Galley steered Grange home.
In the only first round tie, Washington Juniors Teal Farm’s Dan Thompson ran youthful Whitburn Panthers side ragged in a 7-0 rout.
Thompson hammered a hat-trick, backed by Cuthbertson, Quinn, Briggs and Brad Mather.
