Frustration for Grayson over loss of key free-kick

-

Sunderland boss Simon Grayson was frustrated by the freekick which got Brentford back to 3-2 in Saturday’s Championship clash at Brentford.

The Black Cats looked set to seal three vital points when Grabban’s penalty put them 3-1 up on the verge of halftime, but Florian Jozefzoon’s free-kick minutes after the break changed the course of the game.

Didier Ndong looked to have won the ball in the challenge that was eventually penalised, before Jason Steele was beaten by the Dutchman’s curling effort.

Grayson (pictured) said: “Didier won the ball has he won the tackle from behind?

“Possibly, but I think it is a bit harsh.

“We are disappointed that it has gone in from that position. I don’t look for excuses, or feel sorry for ourselves that we didn’t get a few decisions.

“There were signs we were looking a decent team, obviously the positives of (Lewis) Grabban coming back and playing as well as he did and Duncan (Watmore) too.

“That is all coupled with disappointment because we haven’t won the game.”

Brentford star Jozefzoon was thrilled with his goal, curling home the set piece to spark a second-half revival.

He told iFollow Brentford: “It was nice to contribute but the important thing is the team. We didn’t play well in the first-half and we knew that at half-time.

“It was a really important time to get that goal at the start of the second-half. It gave us belief and we were able to make it 3-3 at the end.

“We aren’t happy because we thought we should have won the game but at least we didn’t lose. Extending our unbeaten run is good – it just gives us that bit more confidence going forward.”

Jozefzoon, who also supplied an assist for Maupay’s leveller to secure the point, added: “We have people scoring from all over the pitch which shows how well we are playing.

“Opposition teams can’t just mark our strikers out of the game. If they mark our strikers then we have myself, Nico Yennaris, Romaine Sawyers, and others who can all score.”
