HOPE’S THE FIVE-GOAL HERO AS VICTORIA GARDENS MAKE ROYAL MARINE SUFFER IN COUNTY CUP CRUISE

Star man Callum Hope hammered home five goals to inspire Victoria Gardens’ 8-1 win over league colleagues Royal Marine in the Durham County Sunday Cup first round.

Martin Hope hit his usual goal then Alan Golightly and Keiron Moan made it eight, while David Laing hit a late consolatio­n.

The Stella rediscover­ed their form from last season to enjoy a stirring 5-1 win over Stockton Dr McGonigles.

It was an easy day at the office as Spoors and Dunlop hit doubles. The visitors replied with a fine effort, but a trademark Teasdale effort sealed Stella’s success.

Southwick produced a remarkable display with the bare 11 players to make easy work of Hartlepool side Throston Wanderers.

Kyle Sumner scored on his return and Anth Stokell was in great form with his brace, while player-manager John Butler made sure of the win.

Hylton Castle TWR Group sailed through with an easy 5-0 win over Jarrow The Lakeside. Super Kev Gordon, Callaghan, Hardy and a couple of own goals did the damage.

Michael Hepplewhit­e was called from the bench to drag SR Dons to a tight 1-0 victory with his late effort against Whickham Coachman.

The Park’s County Cup adventure is over, but they put up an excellent fight against Throston Hotspur.

Lewis Fairley continued his brilliant goalscorin­g form with another strike and Dan Pattison made it two.

It finished 2-2 after 90 minutes, but the Hartlepool side won an incredible shootout 9-8 to progress.

TC Plastics went out after a great battle with impressive Norton Red Lion.

The Plasticmen had Anderson, Liam Lay and Mitchell on target in a fine clash, but the hosts squeezed home 4-3.

George McCain hit RCA Grangetown Florists’ only goal as they went down 4-1 in a feisty affair at Gateshead Belle Vue.

Ashbrooke Hendon’s County Cup dreams were halted by the excellent Greenside team, who won 9-0. Ashbrooke will have to wait until next season to have another go.

Liam Houghton had Port of Call in front early on, with his side dreaming of cup glory, but Ferryhill Celtic hit two late goals to send the Sunderland side packing.

Washington Teal Farm suffered a 6-0 thumping after coming up against the excellent Jarrow Perth Green.

Steven Bogie marked his return to the Farra Paragon ISL side with a well-taken goal, but it was to be in vain as Murton Colliery finished 4-1 winners.

First Division leaders Ryhope Top House convincing­ly beat Oddies 5-1 to advance in the Joe Holborn Memorial Cup.

Redman, Winthrop, Whelham, Mitchell and Paul Brooke did the damage.

Andy Smith shone for Oddies, but Blakeman’s red card hit them hard and Daz Green hit their sole reply.

Paul Stokoe’s hat-trick was enough for Redhouse Last Orders to pick up three easy Division One points on their own patch against spritely New Town, winning 3-1. Jopling shone for New Town.

Thorney Close Inn got their house back in order and claimed an important win 4-2 victory over Washington Colliery to move up to second.

Dave Morrow, Paul Taylor, Forrest and Stubbs did the damage, with Oxenham and Rowntree replying.
