I’m not looking to shoot Ov in January, insists Cats defender
Bryan Oviedo insists he is happy on Wearside as he looks ahead to a huge few months for club and country.
The 27-year-old left-back has been one of Sunderland’s most consistent performers in a disappointing campaign which sees the Black Cats bottom of the Championship.
With the January transfer window only two months away there is likely to be interest in some of Sunderland’s players.
But Oviedo insists he is happy at Sunderland and is aiming to help steer the club away from the drop zone and up the table ahead of representing Costa Rica at the World Cup in Russia.
“It’s very complex because I have to make a very good decision,” Oviedo said.
“This is not just thinking about my team, since I have been playing and I have rhythm and that will be very useful for the World Cup.
“Changing teams in January can be difficult because if I change squad and I’m not a starter that could affect me in the national team and we all know how important the World Cup can be. I’m fine here in Sunderland.”
Oviedo has made 12 appearances this season in the second tier and while his aim is to get back to the Premier League he is relishing the competitiveness of the Championship.
He added: “The Championship demands you the most.
“Sometimes I have come to think that it is even more difficult than playing in the Premier League because the players are physically stronger.
“I feel that this tournament is a league even better than some of the first in Europe, obviously I would love to return to the Premier because it gives you more exposure, I hope to be able to return.”
