Hylton win keps them on top

This week in the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League, leaders South Hylton A welcomed Biddick A and started well with Norman Leslie winning the first frame against Stephen Tate 62-38.

Breaks of 21, 29, 31 and 42 saw Adam Smith dominate the second frame beating Terry Froud 123-40 before David Adamson pulled one back for Biddick, pinching the third frame against Gavin Dixon on the final black 57-44.

Graham Rutland won the fourth frame, beating Rod Turnbull 60-25 before breaks of 28 and 43 by Adam Smith, when paired with Gavin Dixon, won Hylton the pairs beating Stephen Tate /Terry Froud 85-39 for the 4-1 win.

Pennywell Comrades A travelled to Glendale and got off to the perfect start with Dean Taylor winning the first frame against Thomas Gwyn 59-20 and Kevin Harrop winning a close second frame against John Danby on the final black 40-38.

Stuart Taylor won another black ball frame beating John Wiseman 61-60 before Paul Atkinson pulled one back for Glendale winning the fourth frame against Steve O’Wellen 65-16.

In the pairs, Frank McParlin/John Danby beat Dean Taylor/Steven Smith 70-19 to reduce the defeat to 3-2.

Graeme Ablett got Boldon CA off to an excellent start away at The Victory winning the first frame against Ray James with the aid of a 22, 24 and 32 break, 87-52.

A 21 break saw John Smith start the second frame strongly but a 20 break by Gary Moore helped him come back and level the match winning the frame 67-38. Gerry Porter moved The Victory into the lead, winning the third frame against Derek White 82-51 before Joe Cromby levelled the match, winning a close fourth frame on the final black against John Butler 77-68.

In the pairs, John Cox/ Joe Cromby won Boldon the match beating Ray James/ Darren Dowell 68-33 for the 3-2 win.

Biddick B welcomed Seaham Conservati­ves A and in the pairs, Peter Mills/Philip Straughan won a close frame beating William Cowell/Robert Cougle on the final black 51-50 for the 3-2 win.

The match between Seaham Conservati­ves B and Steels was expected to be close and the singles alternated into a 2-2 situation before Seaham took the pairs for the overall 3-2 result.

Sadly, the match between Murton Officials and South Hylton B was postponed due to a shortage of players by Murton and has been re-arranged for this evening.

Pennywell Comrades A won 4-1 at home to Lumley and The Hetton Centre won 4-1 away at Mill View.
