U23s back in European action
Sunderland Under-23s return to European action this week when they host Legia Warsaw.
Elliott Dickman’s side will be hoping to build on their opening Premier League International Cup group win over Hertha Berlin when they take on Legia Warsaw at Eppleton CW, Hetton, on Wednesday night (KO 7pm).
Sunderland are also in the same group as Leicester City, who top the group on goal difference. Legia Warsaw are yet to play in the competition so are something of an unknown quantity. Sunderland head into the game on the back of the Checkatrade Trophy 1-1 draw at Grimsby Town. Sunderland won their final group game on penalties but they had already been knocked out of the competition so there was only pride at stake at Blundell Park.
Ahead of the game, Dickman has praised several members of his squad and says one or two may soon be knocking on the door of the first team.
He added: “I think there is one or two knocking on the door, Tom Beadling and Ethan Robson travelled with the first team to Middlesbrough last weekend.
“I thought Luke Molyneux did well against Grimsby out of position.” Tickets for the Legia Warsaw game are priced at £3 for adults and £1 for over65s and under-16s. Unlike U23 league games, there is no free entry for season card holders due to competition rules.
