Christmas concerts will help spread festive cheer with double dose of song

Sunderland singers will be providing a double dose of festive cheer this year.

Bishopwear­mouth Choral Society is presenting its “On Christmas Night” concert in Sunderland Minster at 7.30pm tomorrow night.

The programme includes Ceremony of Carols by Benjamin Britten, My Lord Has Come by Will Todd and What Sweeter Music by John Rutter.

They will also be singing Bob Chilcott’s On Christmas Night – which is a musical celebratio­n of the Christmas story and includes traditiona­l carols in a variety of musical styles – and will be joined by Bishopwear­mouth Young Singers.

The popular soprano Jessica Holmes will be a guest soloist and the concert will be conducted by musical director David Cox.

Tickets are available at £14 for seats in the nave of the church, £8 for the gallery, which has a restricted view, and £8 concession for students or those on benefits.

The society is also putting on its A Christmas Carol concert performed by Bishopwear­mouth Young Singers on Saturday, December 16, at 7.30pm in Ewesley Road Methodist Church.

The piece was written by their musical director David Murray, and is based on Charles Dickens’ famous story of the same name.

There are no advance ticket sales for this concert. Entry is £5 on the door.
