Get ready for a spectacle of colour and fun.

Because that’s what we can look forward to next summer on Wearside.

Last week, we started our look at what to expect each day at The Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018.

Today we look at the fun which is coming our way on day two – that’s Thursday, July 12.

The hundreds of thousands of visitors to Sunderland can expect a continuation of the programme of culture and entertainment.

But Day Two also includes one of the big highlights of the four-day festival.

The upbeat Crew Parade takes place and it won’t just be confined to the coastline.

Every ship’s crew will be involved in the parade which will weave its way through the city from the Port.

Organisers are predicting an “international carnival atmosphere” on the streets of Sunderland.

Take a look at these photos which show just how colourful the festival was when it came to Hartlepool – and now Sunderland can look forward to the same.

The idea of the parade is to thank the host port for their hospitality and everyone is welcome to come along and join the celebrations.

The Parade will conclude with a PrizeGiving Ceremony in the city centre with prizes being awarded to ships and individuals for a range of disciplines and achievements.

So get ready for a cacophony of music, noise, cheers, costumes and much much more.

And watch out for our look at Day Three of The Tall Ships Races Sunderland 2018 in next week’s feature.
