Ray of light sees The Victory storm to success over Seaham

The Victory produced the best performanc­e of the week in the Danby Autos Sunderland Snooker League to secure a 4-1 victory over Seaham Conservati­ves A.

Ray James got The Victory off to an excellent start at Seaham C, before a little luck on the final pink helped Gerry Porter win a close second frame.

However, Ian Hughes pulled one back for Seaham and the game was back on. Darren Dowell won a close fourth frame on the final black before James/John Butler won the pairs, beating Gary Stockton/Robert Cougle for an excellent 4-1 win.

Craig Barron edged Boldon CA into the lead against league leaders South Hylton A, but Adam Smith levelled in the next frame.

Gavin Dixon moved Hylton into the lead and a 59 break by Graham Rutland won the fourth frame for Hylton.

John Smith/Graeme Ablett won the pairs, beating Smith/ Dixon 71-34 to reduce the defeat to 3-2.

Paul Cobb got Biddick B off to an excellent start away at South Hylton B only for Ian Stewart to level proceeding­s.

A 36 break helped Bobby Boyce move Hylton into the lead before Tony Hazard potted well to beat Philip Straughan.

In the pairs, a 36 break by Peter Mills, when paired with John Temple, helped see off Bobby Boyce/Paul Buckley to reduce the defeat to 3-2.

Mill View where at home to Glendale and started well thanks to Adrian Daniels, before John Danby levelled the match.

John Spruce moved Mill View back into the lead before Paul Atkinson potted the last few colours to pinch a close fourth frame from Steve Chandler.

In the pairs, Lee Dixon, when paired with Norman Brown, won Mill View the match when they beat Frank McParlin/John Danby 72-56 for the 3-2 win.

Pennywell Comrades A started strongly at home to Seaham Conservati­ves B, thanks to Kevin Harrop Colin Dobson levelled the match.

Harland Davidson moved Seaham into the lead when beating Dean Taylor, before Manna Singh won the fourth frame against Steven Smith.

Stuart Taylor/Steve O’Wellen clinched the pairs against Colin Dobson/Doug Scott 67-47 to reduce the defeat to 3-2.

Elsewhere, Steels enjoyed a narrow 3-2 victory over Pennywell Comrades B, while The Hetton Centre earned a 3-2 victory when they travelled to Biddick A.

The match between Lumley and Murton Officials was expected to be close and the singles alternated into a 2-2 situation before Lumley took the pairs for the overall 3-2 result.
