Residents make festive album

Musical residents at a Washington care home have been getting into the festive spirit by recording their own Christmas album.

Residents at Donwell House Care Home in Donwell Village have been spreading Christmas cheer by singing a host of festive songs which feature on a seasonal album called Donwell House Songsters Christmas Hits.

The group – made up of 10 residents aged from 70 to those in their 90s – travelled to Ginger Music Company’s recording studio in Gateshead last month to create the album.

They were joined by four members of staff who also feature on the festive tracks, which include Christmas carols such as Silent Night and Jingle Bells.

Acting manager Nicola Brooks, 35, said the CD is now available at the home for family members and visitors to buy, with money raised go “Residents ing to the residents fund and Macmillan nurses.

She said: “We decided to make our own Christmas CD at Donwell and thought that is would be a lovely new experience for the residents to make it.

“The recording studio offered to bring the recording equipment to the home, but as we have be a mini bus we decided to take them up to the studio, as we wanted them to experience the studio atmosphere.

“The residents have been so excited and it has given them something to look forward to.

“Copies of the CD have been put on sale in the home so that visitors and family members can buy it.”
