‘People are so quick to blame others’ – your views on litter

-

Since the Echo launched its Clean Streets campaign, many of you have taken to social media to have your say about Sunderland’s litter problems.

Here are a selection of your latest posts to our Facebook page:

Chris Tempest: “People still blaming fortnightly bin collections is a farce. The problem here is that a lot of people have a carefree attitude to throwing litter away anywhere they choose and the sooner we get to grips with that issue the better.”

Cheryl Williams: “Why are councillors responsible for litter and mess?

“It’s not hard to put rubbish in the bin, there’s plenty about. People are so quick to blame others, but can’t accept responsibility themselves.

“There are plenty of volunteer clean-up crews around. Join one and make the city a nicer place.

Jc Bold: “I’ve taken my bin out and cleared the litter in the street on many occasions.

“It’s a shame that others don’t. Walking along Eden Vale is horrific. If your mattress or sofa is done, pelting it outside of your front door is not a solution.

Caroline McAllister: “I live opposite the shops at Hylton Castle and watch with dismay kids and adults alike chucking food wrappers, crisp packets ,food cartons and empty bottles on the ground when there a three bins, one of which is huge.

“Much of this blows into our garden so I pick it up and dispose of it.

“It’s about time the people of Sunderland took some responsibility for keeping our communities clean and tidy!!!”
