Britton will not be fulltime boss

-

Leon Britton has stressed he is not looking to become Paul Clement’s full-time successor at Swansea City.

After sacking boss Clement on Wednesday, the Swans have made longserving midfielder Britton, who last month became a player-coach at the Welsh club, caretaker manager.

He will be in charge for tomorrow’s Premier League home match against Crystal Palace.

Slaven Bilic, Ronald Koeman and Tony Pulis have been linked with the vacancy, though Ryan Giggs has ruled himself out of the running.

When Britton (pictured) was asked if he was a contender for the full-time job, the 35-year-old said: “Not at the moment.

“It is not to say I wouldn’t take it in the future, but I just think at this moment in time it is not the right move for me.

“I’ve been asked to help the club out, which is something I will always do. But, in terms of the immediate future, I am not looking to be the full-time manager.”

He added: “Speaking to the chairman (Huw Jenkins), it was a case of we’ll go day by day.

“We have the Palace game and then I’ll see where we are at. I don’t know how far down the line they are in terms of the search for a new manager.”

Dutch giants Ajax have appointed reserve manager Michael Reiziger as interim coach after the sacking of Marcel Keizer and his assistant, Dennis Bergkamp.
