Not surprisingly people have differing opinions on the impact social media has on their children.

While many believe that the astonishing growth of the online platforms has gone too far and are having a negative impact on children, there are some who hold the opinion that it can be a good thing – as long it is correctly managed by the parents.

The majority of parents grew up without 24/7 interaction with others of the same age. There were opportunities to ‘escape’ the peer pressures that can be placed upon children. But know, if a child has a social media account, that almost no longer exists.

As one parent put it: “As a father of a 14-year-old, I constantly worry about the pressure my daughter is put under through social media. If we remove her access to these accounts, she will feel isolated form her friends, but with access, there is always the chance of online bullying.

“As a parent it is a nightmare and constant worry.”
