Swans boss eyes fourth Magpie KO

-

Carlos Carvalhal is looking for a fourth successive win over Newcastle United tomorrow.

Swansea City side take on Rafa Benitez’s side at St James’s Park (3pm), with the Welsh club’s new boss boasting a good record against the Magpies.

Carvalhal took over at the Liberty Stadium late last month – just four days after leaving Sheffield Wednesday by mutual consent.

Wednesday beat Newcastle home and away in the Championship last season and also knocked them out of the League Cup in 2015-16, when the Tynesiders were managed by Steve McClaren.

Asked about his record against the Magpies while at Hillsborough, Carvalhal said: “We know their strong points and we know their weak points.

“They know our strong and weak points. At the end, you see if we are more strong than them.”

Swansea are bottom of the Premier League, while Newcastle are 13th after taking seven points from their four festive games.

Carvalhal said: “It’s not decisive. It’s a very important game. All games are important to us. It will be a difficult game. We don’t play any easy games.”

Meanwhile, Leroy Fer is eligible to play for Swansea after he had the red card he was shown in last weekend’s FA Cup tie against Wolves overturned on appeal.
