Big plans revealed for Leechmere area
A £1million development project to turn 15 acres of the Leechmere Industrial Estate into an industrial park has been announced in Sunderland.
Development of the section of the 55-acre site is to be carried out by LG Bevan Construction Company, specialists in industrial package deal development.
The company will cooperate with Sunderland Corporation and will offer industrial premises ranging in size from 2,000 to 50,000 square feet, planned to individual requirements.
The company would probably start to build some advance units of about 2,000 square feet and these could be ready for occupation by the end of the year.
Units could be used by local companies planning on redevelopment and the estate would be advertised nationally to attract new industry in the town.
Mr Silverwood said the cost of the development was difficult to assess, but would be in the region of £1million.
The package deal service was comprehensive, including all drawings, construction of workshops and offices, roads, and provision of gas, electricity, and similar requirements.
