Wearside flu spate was on the wane
There are signs that Sunderland’s influenza epidemic may be over its peak.
Doctors and employers reported that more workers were returning to their jobs, and with the situation described as “static” and “levelling out”.
With the apparent levelling out, influenza deaths were cut by half.
Mr James Swarbrick, secretary to Sunderland Hospitals management mommittee, said the outbreak “seems to be fairly static,” and many people returned to work.
