Adkins: Hull are building towards wins

Hull City will look to maintain their upward momentum when they visit Sunderland this Saturday.

Boss Nigel Adkins was happy with the Tigers’ efforts in their goalless weekend draw against Reading – though they wrongly had a Jon Toral strike disallowed.

“It’s a third clean sheet in five games,” said Adkins, whose side climbed a place to fifth-bottom in the Championsh­ip. “Reading are the best team in the division in terms of keeping possession and I would suggest that we had more of the ball.

“We nullified a lot of their threats with the way that we pressed and we had opportunit­ies to go and score.

“We had more penalty area entries than in many games this season and there’s an argument about the goal that was disallowed. “In my opinion, it should have been allowed, but I’m led to believe that there’s a ruling where if the goalkeeper’s hand is on top of the ball – so if that’s correct then the referee has made the right decision.

Ex-Sunderland midfielder David Meyler managed 70 minutes on his return from injury. Adkins added: “I know that we need to win games, but we’re building towards that.

“Their keeper (ex-Sunderland man Vito Mannone) made a fantastic save from Jarrod Bowen and we’re creating chances. We’ve addressed some of the issues that we were having before. We look strong towards the end of games now and we’re on that roll of getting more
