Unite for the greater good

In response to David Calvert’s recent letter concerning Brexit, the European Project is La La Land!

The EU is a sinister, corrupt, power mad, unaccountable autocracy, run by unelected, overpaid, selfimportant presidents, commissioners, officials and nobodies.

Why would we want to be governed from afar, by people who care nothing for Britain’s Sovereignty and interests?

Why are so many of our own career politicians obsessed with the UK becoming a subservient outpost of a Federal European super state?

Lord Adonis, Sirs Clegg and Starmer, Messrs Blair, Clarke, Ms Soubry and their ilk refuse to accept the democratic outcome of the Referendum, thus showing their disregard for the will of the majority.

They represent the erudite, expert, elite ‘establishment’, who know what’s best for us, along with their counterparts in other EU member states.

Had the public voted to remain, there would be no calls for a second referendum and no further questioning of the EU’s direction of travel.

As for our divided Government’s stance on the negotiations, what do we have to look forward to? Northern Ireland to be separated from the rest of the UK, full alignment with the Customs Union and Single Market, subordination to the European Court of Justice on immigration, our armed forces to be integrated into an EU command structure with a common defence policy (it was in the Lisbon Treaty), and a bill to the British taxpayer of about £40billion.

Not quite the ‘Take Back Control’ we voted for. Labour under Mr Corbyn would do no better of course.

The lies began in 1972 from Mr Heath, when enabling legislation was passed for us to join a Common Market the following year, without a referendum. Why would a prosperous and respected nation with a Commonwealth, many trading partners worldwide and a founding member of NATO need to be part of a political union?

Trade, jobs and investment were just a smokescreen and remain so.

The £392million we hand over to Brussels every week is our money. We shouldn’t have to beg for less than half of it back and be told how to spend ‘European money’.

Brussels now boasts an EU Museum at a cost of £47million (UK taxpayer funding £19million) which rewrites history of course. Meanwhile, our armed forces, emergency services, NHS, prison service, border force and councils are cut to the bare bones.

EU policies have destroyed many thousands of British jobs in steel making, shipbuilding, smelting, manufacturing, farming and fishing, through EU competition and environmental law, compulsory OJEU tendering and allowing European companies to openly acquire our strategic assets. Divide and rule.

Why are dividends from some of our rail operators paid to German and French state owned rail companies?

Why are our taxes funding new rail projects in Eastern Europe when we need replacement rolling stock and Metro extensions here?

Why do we pay benefits to EU dependents abroad? Madness.

The Remoaners need to check their facts (and their loyalties), unite for the common good and stop portraying decent patriots as right wing xenophobes. David M Caslaw
