‘Madness’ to cash in on Madine

-

Phil Parkinson says it would be “madness” to allow top scorer Gary Madine to leave Bolton this transfer window.

Madine took his tally to 10 league goals this term with a 53rd-minute opener in Saturday’s 1-1 Championship draw against Mick McCarthy’s Ipswich.

Madine (pictured) and sub Felipe Morais went close to doubling the hosts’ lead before Joe Garner fired in an 82ndminute equaliser.

“It would be madness for us to lose him,” said Parkinson of his in-form striker. “He is a good player and there is more to come. If you get quality crosses in the box, he will get goals.

“Overall, it was a good performance considering we lost Mark Beevers (illness) on the morning of the game. It’s always disappointing not to take three points when you are ahead. However, with the disruption we have had, it is a decent point for us.”

Bolton rose to fifth-bottom spot with their point.

Burton Albion slipped to the foot of the table after a 6-0 thrashing at Fulham.

Boss Nigel Clough said: “It’s demoralising for the players, but the good thing is the game’s over and all that matters is the next 18 games, not this one.”

Clough sounded less than hopeful of bringing in new faces before the transfer window closes to replicate last season’s miraculous escape.

He added: “We’re trying to bring one or two players in, but we’ve been trying to do that for the last 20 days. With our resources it’s difficult to get players in.”

Sheffield Wednesday manager Jos Luhukay is still waiting for his first league goal in charge after a 0-0 home draw against Cardiff.

The point leaves Wednesday with one win in their last 12 league matches and in 17th place.

Leaders Wolves were stunned 2-0 by Nottingham Forest, as Kieran Dowell and Ben Osborn struck for Aitor Karanka’s side.

Sheffield United won 2-1 at Norwich, with loanee James Wilson netting on his Blades debut,
