Are you struggling to balance work and fitness?

-

If you’re glued to a desk eight hours a day then you’ll appreciate how difficult it can be squeeze in a gym session.

In fact a recent study by CV Library, which surveyed 1,2000 workers, has revealed how work commitments are preventing professionals from hitting the gym, with over half (66.7 per cent) admited that staying late in the office had stopped them from making it to the gym. In addition only a third (31.6 per cent) admited to exercising once or twice a week, and one in four (24 per cent) confessed that they don’t exercise at all.

“We spend a large proportion of our day working, so it’s no surprise that professionals find it hard to motivate themselves to exercise as well, whether that’s before or after work,” says Lee Biggins, founder and director of CV Library.

“But the truth is, exercise is extremely important to both physical and mental health and if you’re struggling to get motivated it’s important you find a routine that works for you.”

If you want to improve your physical and mental well being, then it is possible to make fitness part of your weekly routine, here Lee shares his top tips for balancing work and fitness commitments. Adjust your body clock: Going to bed an hour earlier could help to re-adjust your body clock and make you more of a morning person! Getting up earlier gives you more time to exercise before work, leaving you feeling more productive and giving you back your evenings.

Make the most of your lunch break: There might not be enough time to make it to the gym for a workout on your lunch break (especially if you want to eat!) but there’s always time to go for a walk and get some fresh air.

Workout at home: Remember, exercise doesn’t have to be done at the gym. There are a whole host of at home workouts that you can do to save you time (and money).

Get organised: Pack your bags and select your outfit the night before, this can help you get to the gym nice and early without cutting into your workout time. Alternatively, prepare dinner before you go to work so when you leave the gym you know you can go home, eat straightaway and relax. It’s all about finding the right balance.
