Sunderland Echo

A night filled with so many fab highlights

An NHS stalwart with more than 45 years of service today urged Sunderland Echo readers to nominate their health heroes.

Every day, NHS staff are going above and beyond to help and care for their patients. They deserve to be praised, especially through the Best of Health Awards.

The call for action came from Carol Harries, the deputy chief executive of the South Tyneside and City Hospitals Sunderland NHS Foundation Trusts. It’s timely advice from someone who became a winner herself at last year’s competition.

“It was quite a shock,” said Carol who won the Special Recognition Award for her decades of outstanding service.

“When you come to work and you do a job, that is what you do. You don’t ever think that someone is going to single you out for something. It is nice to receive that recognition. It is quite humbling.”

Carol urged readers to get nominating for this year’s competition.

“There are excellent members of staff who go above and beyondeverydayoftheirworking life to support patients. It is really important that the readers, themembersofthepublic, nominate those individuals so that they get some additional recognition for the work that they do.”

She urged people: “Put that nomination in for the good experience you have had, whether it is from domestic support staff or from nurses. If you don’t, then the judges won’t be able to consider that person for the awards.”

Carol was a 2017 winner The more the merrier. Let’s make it really hard for the judges by inundating them with top-classsubmissions.
