Parkinson demands Bolton response

-

Bolton boss Phil Parkinson is demanding that his relegation-threatened side quickly put their midweek defeat at Cardiff behind them.

The Trotters slipped to a first defeat in four Championship games against Neil Warnock’s high-flying Bluebirds.

But they have the chance to boost their sixth-bottom spot away to inconsistent QPR on Saturday and at home to second-bottom Sunderland on Tuesday.

Parkinson, whose side are two points above the drop zone, said: “We need to move on from this quickly.

“It was our game in hand and a chance for us to open up the gap on the bottom three.

“We haven’t taken it, but we need to make sure we start better on Saturday against QPR. “We’ve now got to recover the lads as quickly as possible and get ready for another terrific game ahead of us at the weekend.” Focusing on the QPR game, and discussing playing on the road, Parkinson said: “You have to stand strong as a team away from home to get results. In the first period. we didn’t do that well enough (on Tuesday), though we were better in the second half.

“We need to stand strong and be resilient first and foremost because we didn’t do that and I’m disappointed.”

Former Sunderland keeper Ben Alnwick enjoyed an excellent performance at Cardiff, despite the defeat and Parkinson added: “Ben has been excellent for us and his performance was top drawer.

“A lot of credit goes to him because he made some really big saves.”
