Tickets are now available for the social evening planned by the Herrington Village Show group. The event on Saturday, April 21, at the Holy Rosary Parish Centre, Farringdon, will be a pie and peas supper. Entertainm­ent will be by popular Teesside entertaine­r Janie St John and will feature wartime songs. A combined women’s group is putting together a pageant for the night celebratin­g the Suffragett­e success in gaining the vote in 1918 – 100. Guest are invited to go along in costume of the time. It is hoped to do a similar show at Lakeside in the autumn. Tickets priced £5 are available via Herrington groups and societies or from Strawberry Rose coffee shop.

Farringdon is a little tidier in places after the efforts of a team from the Youth Almighty Club, based at Farringdon Youth & Community Centre CC. A litter pick was organised by local councillor Gillian Galbraith. Starting around the shops in Ashdown Road the team worked towards Munslow Road where a particular­ly bad patch of litter strewn ground had been reported. Councillor Galbraith has been in discussion with the comprehens­ive school in an effort to raise pupil awareness of the litter problem. Other areas of Farringdon are earmarked for treatment by the youth clubs enthusiast­ic team as part of Councillor Galbraith’s ‘Clean up Farringdon’ campaign.

Councillor­s Stuart Porthouse, Gillian Galbraith and Darryl Dixon are holding their next ward surgeries tomorrow from noon to 1pm in the Community Room, Jubilee Centre, Allendale Road, Farringdon, and on Saturday from 10.30am to 11.30am in the Methodist Chapel, Crow Lane, Middle Herrington. No appointmen­t is needed just call in.

East Herrington Townswomen’s Guild will meet tonight in St Chad’s Church hall at 7.15pm. The speaker will be Phil Curtis with a talk about Fashion from 1890 –1970. Visitors and new members are welcome.

Card-making craft, patchwork and quilting classes for beginners are held in Middle Herrington Church, Crow Lane, on Thursdays from 10am to noon. For more details, ring Mary on 0191 520 0835.

St David’s Community Church, Anthony Road, Farringdon, runs a weekly coffee morning on a Thursday from 9am to noon. Full English breakfasts are served as well as activities such as crafts and music. A wellbeing coffee morning is held every Wednesday from 10am to 11.30am in Farringdon Youth & Community Centre, Allendale Road. Carley Turnbull, Imogen Laing and Eden Ranton have been awarded students of the year at Thorney Close Enterprise Centre Karate Club. They have all trained really well this year and have proved to be outstandin­g students. Training takes place on Fridays from 5pm to 6pm. At Grindon Church Community Project in Galway Road there is a wide range of activities as it continues to develop the building and facilities. Get in touch, make some new friends and have some fun. Theatre and Performanc­e Skills sessions run at Grindon Church Community Project in Galway Road on Sundays from 2pm to 4pm. Sessions cost £2 and are led by Theatre Space North East. The sessions explore theatre in a practical and fun way. No previous experience is necessary, just the willingnes­s to “give it a go”.
