There is only one Barnes View in Sunderland, and that’s the way it will stay, after interventi­on from Councillor Ian Galbraith, prevented a new developeme­nt at Nookside being named Barnes View. The new venture is less than a mile and a half away from the original Barnes View, and in the same postcode SR4. Nostalgic Views of The North is the title of an illustrate­d talk to be given by John Moreels, from Durham City, to members of Sunderland Men’s Probus Club at their next meeting in Ashbrooke Sports Pavilion on Tuesday, March 13, at 10.30am. Non members, for whom there is no charge, are welcome. An Easter Craft Fair will be held at St Gabriel’s Church on Saturday, March 24, from 10am to 2pm in aid of Binky Buns Rabbit and Guinea Pig Rescue. There will be local crafts people, stalls, tombola, raffle, games, bric-a-brac, refreshmen­ts, cakes and bakes. Free entry. Sunderland Ladies’ Probus Club will meet on Thursday, March 22, in St John’s Church, Ashbrooke, when Mary Todner gives a talk on Friends of Backhouse Park. Coffee will be served at 10am and the meeting begins at 10.30am. Sunderland Cardiac Support Group monthly meeting will take place on Thursday at 6.45pm in The Education Centre, Sunderland Royal Hospital. On this occasion the group will enjoy an illustrate­d talk by Bernard Hope on Eddie Chapman Second World War Double Agent. On Thursday at 6.30pm at St Mary Magdalene’s Church, Wilson Street, there will be a Lent course – When I Survey-Christ’s Cross and Ours. There will be a Coffee At Burn Park event on Thursdays at Burn Park Methodist Church from 10am to 11.30am. Take along some craft work or just go along for a natter. On Thursday, Holy Communion will be held at St Nicholas Church at 10am. Ewesley Road WI will meet in the Enid Dagg Room of the church tomorrow at 2.15pm. On this occasion it will be the annual meeting. Stall will be bottles and cans, and the competitio­n will be for an unusual egg cup. The Licensing of Stuart Bain as Provost of Sunderland Minster will take place on Saturday, March 17, at 3pm. Ewesley Road Ladies’ Fellowship will meet tomorrow at 7.30pm with a special guest visiting the group. On Friday at 7.30pm Stations of the Cross will take place at St Mary Magdalene’s Church, Wilson Street, and at midday at The Church of The Good Shepherd, Forest Road. On Saturday, a table-top sale will be held in St Mary Magdalene’s Parish and Community Centre, Wilson Street. Set up will be at 9am, with the event opening at 10am. Tables are £5. Ring 0191 5656318 to book. This will be followed by tea and bingo at 1.30pm. A soup and socks event will be held at St Nicholas Church on Saturday at 12.30pm. On Sunday, the fourth Sunday of Lent and Mothering Sunday, Holy Communion will take place at St Nicholas Church at 8am and at 10.30am with a parade of organisati­ons. A Lent lunch will be held at St Nicholas Church on Saturday, March 17, at 12.30pm. The cost is £3 to include a choice of soup, bread, homemade cakes and tea or coffee. Money raised will go towards church funds, and a chosen charity. Everyone is welcome. Call into St Gabriel’s Church coffee morning on Saturday from 10.30am to noon, which is in aid of St Gabriel’s Men’s Institute. Refreshmen­ts £1.20. Enjoy the fellowship. All are welcome. Sunderland Floral Art Club will meet on Tuesday, March 20, at 2pm in St Cecilia’s Church hall, for a floral demonstrat­ion by Karl Brunton entitled Anything Goes. Visitors are welcome, pay £4. Open Arms event will be held at St Nicholas Church in The Aidan Room tomorrow at 10.30am. This is a support network for care givers so they can get together for an informal chat, some time out and a chance to meet other people who share and understand their experience­s and appreciate the difficulti­es of living with the pressures of everyday life. These coffee mornings, held on the first Wednesday of every month, are organised so care givers can relax and share the highs and lows, knowledge and practical advice and support one another. Riding Lights Theatre Group presents Where Adventure Begins – Faith In The Family. This entertaini­ng play, suitable for the whole family, will be held at St Gabriel’s Church hall on March 24 at 7.30pm. Tickets cost £10, ring 0191 4773990. South Bents Townswomen’s Guild will support Sunderland Federation Coffee Morning tomorrow, hosted by Tavistock TG at 10am in St Mary’s Church hall, Bridge Street. Next Wednesday, March 14, SBTG will hold its annual meeting in Whitburn Methodist Church hall at 7pm. Reports from the previous Guild year will be presented and there will be discussion about the format of future Guild meetings. Every Sunday until further notice, Souter Lighthouse will host a 2k and 5k runs along timed courses from 9.15am to 11am on Souter’s scenic coast. These are open to runners of all levels and ages including beginners, families and more experience­d runners. This is the perfect way to get fit and stay fit, with children of all ages accompanie­d by an adult and dogs on leads welcome. Some of the route is across uneven ground, possibly muddy in parts but both routes are accessible to pushchairs. Meet in the Welfare Field next to the car park.
