Healthy ideas for Mother’s Day

Mother’s Day can be another one of those occasions when it’s way too easy to over indulge.

I normally take my mam out for afternoon tea or Sunday dinner, and she normally gets a box of chocolates and a bottle of wine.

But, this year I am going to switch things up!

Instead of a present, I’m going to make her some healthy Superfood Chocolates and we’re going to go out for a family walk along the seafront at Seaburn.

A day together without work or other distractio­ns can be much more special than a present anyway.

Here are some fun ideas to consider as you’re planning your Mother’s Day – five which are different and are sure to be enjoyed. coastline in the North East.

There’s lots of lovely walks right on our doorstep.

Even if you stop for coffee and cake or a glass of prosecco, it makes it more worthwhile if you’ve done a little bit of exercise.

Find a class in your area that has a Mother’s Day special or simply book a class early on Sunday morning.

Yoga is a fantastic way to slow things down while relaxing and meditating (something every mam needs!).

Yoga can also restore balance to what can easily become a very hectic day for mam.

Bonus points if you treat her to a delicious brunch afterwards. healthy dinner for everyone.

She will appreciate the time to relax and the delicious meal.

Don’t forget to clean up afa terwards!

For Mother’s Day, you can purchase a gym membership or block booking of classes for your mam.

Has she been talking about a new spin studio or a dance class she heard about from a friend?

Find her favourite exercise activity and book it.

then, plan to attend the first class together on Mother’s Day to kick off your day with a workout that’ll leave you both feeling great.

Instead of buying your mam a lot of regular, sugary, sweet chocolates, turn instead to the benefits of dark chocolate, which has been shown to have anti-inflammato­ry antioxidan­ts.

Cocoa and chocolate (especially the bitterer, dark chocolate, which isn’t as processed) are filled with a healthy type of flavonoid which are good for heart health.

There’s plenty of dark chocolate bars on offer in the supermarke­ts, or you could go the extra mile and make your own superfood dark chocolates!
