Hull boss blasts ‘disgrace’ of a display

-

Nigel Adkins felt the performance from his Hull City side against Millwall was “a disgrace” last night.

The Lions claimed a fifth straight away Championship win with goals from George Saville and Jake Cooper, with Abel Hernandez’s late reply unable to prevent a first defeat in eight at home for the Tigers.

Hull, who conceded after only 51 seconds, remain just three points above the drop zone, and Adkins fumed: “That was by way and beyond the worst performance since I’ve been at the football club.

“I need to get to the bottom of it. We were a disgrace in the first half. It was a poor kickoff, they had a throw-in in their half and they go the length of the pitch and score.

“The first half was nowhere near the level that’s expected and the level that the players have been producing on a consistent basis. “I’m very annoyed, I’m trying to keep a calm voice for this, but we were nowhere near what was expected.” Burton’s miserable run without a home win reached 14 games as the secondbottom side lost 2-0 to Brentford. Albion captain Kyle McFadzean deflected an Ollie Watkins cross into his own net for the second-half opener, and Watkins’ neat strike doubled the lead 10 minutes from time.

Brewers boss Nigel Clough said: “We were toe to toe with Brentford and there wasn’t a lot in the game and then you score an own goal and they get a soft second one and it changesthecomplexionofthegame.

“It was only really in the last 10 minutes of the game that they really dominated.

“We caused Brentford a few problems.”
